How to choose your PVC fitting or junction box

Tell a fitting from a junction box

A PVC fitting joins two conduit sections in a straight line or at an angle. A PVC electrical box is an enclosed box that protects wire connections and lets you branch circuits. Both are essential in any PVC conduit installation.

Check the diameter and the number of entries

The fitting diameter has to match the PVC conduit you're running. Junction boxes come with different entry configurations (1, 2, 3 or 4 entries) and different diameters per entry. Count the conduits you need to connect before you pick the box.

Choose for the environment

A PVC junction box shrugs off corrosion and humidity, which makes it a fit for outdoor and underground installations. Where there's direct water exposure, check the IP rating and run sealing gaskets at the entries.
