Required airflow (in CFM, cubic feet per minute) tracks the room volume and the number of air changes per hour you need. An industrial workshop needs more air changes than an office. Each fan's spec sheet gives you the maximum airflow.

Pick the fan type

Axial fans push air in a straight line and suit open spaces (warehouses, barns). Centrifugal fans build higher pressure for long ventilation ducts. Wall exhaust fans dump stale air straight outdoors.

Factor in the environment

Agricultural buildings (barns, poultry houses, hog houses) need agriculture fans that shrug off corrosion and humidity. Spaces with dust or gas need explosion-proof models. Match the equipment classification to the installation environment.
