How to choose your distribution and control equipment

Size the electrical capacity

An electrical panel is rated in amperes, and the rating you need tracks the building's total load. A standard residential panel runs 100A or 200A. Commercial and industrial installations call for 400A and up. A load calculation by a qualified electrician sets the number.

Choose the protection components

An electrical breaker protects a circuit against overloads and short circuits. Contactors switch power circuits open and closed (lighting, motors, heating). Relays handle low-voltage control signals. Every piece of electrical control equipment has to match the gauge of the circuit it protects.

Confirm system compatibility

Breakers and control components have to suit the panel you've installed. Manufacturers run proprietary systems: a breaker made for one brand's panel won't seat in another's.

Frequently asked questions

We stock distribution panels, breakers, contactors, relays, timers and control components for residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural installations, including a full line of electrical control panels.

Capacity tracks the building's total load (heating, lighting, outlets, equipment). A load calculation to the Canadian Electrical Code sets the figure. Have a qualified electrician run it.

No. A breaker is specific to the panel manufacturer. An incompatible breaker may not lock in properly and can compromise circuit protection.

In-stock items ship in 2 to 3 business days. Special panels and components may need a special order timeline.
