PVC electrical conduit

Grey plastic fittings for conduit, shown on a wooden surface.

PVC electrical conduit protects wiring from physical damage, moisture and chemical agents. Accès Distribution Produits stocks CSA-certified PVC conduit in a range of diameters and lengths for residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural installations. PVC resists corrosion better than steel, installs lighter and costs far less, and our grey electrical conduit covers the common runs you reach for every day.

How to choose your PVC conduit

Work out the diameter you need

Conduit diameter comes down to the number and gauge of wires you're pulling. The Canadian Electrical Code sets the maximum fill rate (generally 40% of the inner cross-section for 3 wires or more). Common diameters run from ½ inch to 6 inches.

Pick the conduit type

DB-type (direct burial) rigid PVC conduit goes straight in the ground. EB-type (encased burial) conduit calls for concrete encasement. Schedule 40 gives you a thicker wall for exposed or surface runs. Check what the code requires for your installation type.

Plan the accessories

Every electrical conduit pipe run needs PVC accessories: elbows, connectors, couplings, PVC cement and mounting supports. Spec the full list up front so the job doesn't stall.

Frequently asked questions

Schedule 40 has a thick wall for surface or exposed runs. DB (direct burial) is made to go straight in the ground with no concrete encasement. The right pick depends on the installation type and local code.

PVC takes freeze-thaw cycles well. That said, a sharp impact on very cold PVC (below -20°C) can crack it, so handle conduit carefully in deep cold.

Use a PVC cement made for electrical conduit. Accès Distribution Produits carries the right ones. Coat both surfaces (conduit and fitting) and assemble fast.

Every PVC conduit we carry is CSA-certified, meets the Canadian Electrical Code, and is covered by a manufacturer warranty of roughly 50 years against manufacturing defects.
